What do you see?
note: I’m reading A Time To Keep Silence by Patrick Leigh Fermor.I finished reading Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders.
a palm tree
note: What I saw in my walk to the river.
Life is
Life is an art in progress
We are trying to create a masterpiece
One inch at a time.
ordinary things
The ordinary things that sing and comfort
The birds and my sandals
My morning walk expands my morning
Carrying a book and stopping
and sit on benches along the way
to read and maybe write a note or two
my feet and pages get along
like kindlings to start a fire.
My voice bounces in greetings
when I meet other walkers
their dogs running towards me
I walk and read and say hello
what other wonders do a day offers
to lift the spirits?

what are your distractions
The easy part is the walking
with doves giving their silent
blessings, and you succumb
to distractions without complaints
islands of red and green bushes,
California poppies, yellow and orange
daisies dancing with the breeze.
You reach the river
greet a sitting fisherman watching
his line, from the corner of your eye
sees a white heron that suddenly flies
skimming the water, quickly you reach
for your cell phone to capture its flight.
Returning home a palm tree
fans the sidewalk, your shadow
playing with its leaves.
